STATE CRIMES
Most crimes that are prosecuted are in State Court. Each county in California has a Superior Court. Some counties, like Los Angeles and Orange County, have many courthouses within their district.
When someone is arrested by the local police department, they are typically prosecuted in State Court. Some typical State Court crimes are, Assault and Battery, Criminal Threats, Driving Under the Influence, Domestic Violence, Drug Offenses, Kidnapping, Manslaughter, Murder, Pornography, Prostitution, Rape, Sex Crimes, Stalking, Theft Offenses, and “Three Strikes”. State cases may also include City Attorney Office Hearings or District Attorney Office Hearings, Probation Violations, Bench Warrants, as well as Juvenile Crimes.
Most State Court cases are prosecuted by the District Attorney of the county in which they occurred. The State Attorney General’s Office does prosecute some crimes in which they were involved in the investigation. In some counties, the local City Attorney may prosecute misdemeanor offenses.
